Anaheim bans short-term rentals

ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) — Anaheim is saying bye-bye to Airbnb.

The home of Disneyland and Angel Stadium is giving owners of short-term rental properties 18 months to stop operating.

The Orange County Register (http://bit.ly/29dgqTB ) says the City Council voted Wednesday to ban such rentals at a packed special meeting.

In the meantime, current regulations will be enhanced and homes providing short-term rentals without permits can have their water and power cut off.

The number of short-term rentals in Anaheim has soared to take advantage of tourism. There are currently 363 permitted operators.

Homeowners using Airbnb and similar applications to make extra money say their operations enhance shabby areas.

But neighbors say strangers litter, take parking spaces and hold rowdy all-night parties.

Mayor Tom Tait says such properties are "motels in residential neighborhoods."
