LOS ANGELES (AP) — The Los Angeles County Museum of Art has received two donations totaling $75 million toward its new modernist building.

The Los Angeles Times reports (http://lat.ms/1WUjKmB ) that art collector and museum co-chair Elaine Wynn pledged $50 million to the project and former Univision chairman A. Jerrold Perenchio has promised $25 million. Combined, it amounts to the largest monetary donation in the museum's history.

The museum is working to raise a total of $600 million for the new building, which is awaiting environmental review. Pending approval, construction would begin in 2018 and be completed in 2023. The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors previously approved $125 million for the project.

With the two major donations the museum is about at the halfway point for fundraising.
