Fuzhou will host the World Heritage Conference next year After 16 years, this international event is once again held in China

[Fuzhou Evening News] On July 9th, good news came from Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan. Fuzhou successfully obtained the right to host the 44th UNESCO World Heritage Committee Meeting (World Heritage Conference) in 2020. This is the international event held in China after the 28th World Heritage Conference in Suzhou in 2004, sixteen years ago.The World Heritage Convention is a regular meeting of the UNESCO World Heritage Committee and is held annually. The first conference was held in Paris, France in 1977. This year's 43rd World Heritage Convention was held in Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan, from June 30th to July 10th.At present, Fujian has four world cultural and natural heritage sites, including 2 cultural heritage sites (Fujian Tulou and Xiamen Gulangyu Island), 1 natural heritage site (Taining Danxia landform), and 1 cultural and natural heritage site (Wuyi Mountain), which are listed on the World Heritage List at previous World Heritage Conferences.Fuzhou has more than 7,000 years of human activity and more than 2,200 years of history. There are 4,746 non-movable cultural relics in the city, including 24 national key cultural relics and 131 provincial cultural relics. In recent years, Fuzhou has also accelerated the application for the World Heritage, including “Maritime Silk Road·Fuzhou Historical Site” and Three Lanes and Seven Alleys, both of which have been included in the list of China's World Cultural Heritage.
