End of Heat Signals Autumn as Chestnut Harvest Begins in Yunfu

City Life｜With the End of Heat solar term arriving on August 23, the first hints of autumn are emerging in Chejiao Village, Jiancheng Town, Yunan County, Yunfu. The scent of ripening chestnuts now fills the groves as plump oil chestnuts mature on the branches. Villagers use long bamboo poles to knock ripe chestnut burrs from the trees. The hedgehog-like burrs tumble down with a soft rustle, forming a russet-green “carpet of spines” across the woodland floor. According to local agricultural technicians, Jiancheng Town has around 5,000 mu of chestnut plantations. The crop is thriving and approaching full maturity, with the main harvest expected to reach markets around the Mid-Autumn Festival.#citylife

处暑过后，秋意渐浓。8月23日刚过处暑节气，云浮郁南县建城镇车滘村的栗林里已是满山栗香，饱满的油栗陆续进入成熟期。村民们手持长竹竿，熟练地敲打枝头成熟的栗苞，一只只像小刺猬似的栗苞簌簌掉落，在林间铺成一片青褐色的“小刺毯”。据当地农技人员介绍，建城镇全镇油栗种植面积约5000亩，目前整体长势喜人，正陆续进入全面成熟期，将在中秋节前后集中上市。
