This Year’s First Flock of Rare Spoon-billed Sandpipers Arrives in Zhanjiang
Lingnan: Beauty Beyond Borders | Recently, two spoon-billed sandpipers, a national first-class protected wild animal known as “little spoons”, were spotted foraging in the shallows of Shajiaoxuan, Wuchuan, Zhanjiang. This sighting is regarded as the earliest autumn migration record of the species on the Leizhou Peninsula this year. The spoon-billed sandpiper is found only along the East Asian-Australasian Flyway and is among the world’s most endangered birds. The Leizhou Peninsula, where Zhanjiang is located, serves as one of the most significant wintering grounds for the species in mainland China, hosting these birds each winter. #SplendidLingnan
