Lions, Dragons & Martial Arts! The birthday of Lü Chunyang lights up Xiqiao in Nanhai, Foshan

On May 11, the centuries-old Daoist tradition, the Birthday of Founding Ancestor Lü Chunyang, an intangible cultural heritage event, came alive in Xiqiao Town, Nanhai District of Foshan. Eight themed parade formations marched both online and offline, drawing over 100,000 spectators. “Daxian” refers to Lü Dongbin, one of the Eight Immortals in Chinese folklore. Legend says his birthday falls on the 14th day of the fourth lunar month. Every year, people gather in Baiyun Cave of Xiqiao Mountain to pray for favorable weather, good harvests, and family well-being.

5月11日（农历四月十四），流传六百多载的西樵“大仙诞”非遗民俗文化活动在佛山南海西樵热闹上演，八大巡游方阵线上线下齐开启，吸引了超10万人次围观。“大仙”是指八仙之一的吕洞宾，相传农历四月十四日是吕洞宾的诞辰，人们到西樵山白云洞景区的云泉仙馆参拜大仙，以祈求风调雨顺、丰衣足食、老少平安。
