Nanhai Jiujiang celebrates the seventh Chinese Farmers Harvest Festival

On September 22, to celebrate the seventh Chinese Farmers Harvest Festival, Jiujiang Town in Nanhai District, Foshan City, held a series of activities showcasing the characteristics of Lingnan water town. During the festival, activities such as catching fish, counting fish fry while singing, and fishing for shrimp were organized. Jiujiang town is known as "Hometown of California bass in China", with a history of aquaculture spanning over 500 years. In 2023, the town had 34,400 acres of farmed fish ponds, with a fish fry output value exceeding 1.2 billion yuan and an overall aquatic production value of more than 3.5 billion yuan. One of the unique customs preserved for the Jiujiang harvest festival is "catching fish," which involves discharging most of the water from the fish ponds after the harvest and allowing the villagers to catch the fish at the bottom of the ponds. This tradition is a distinctive feature of the festival.

9月22日，为庆祝第七届“中国农民丰收节”，佛山市南海区九江镇举办捉塘底、数鱼花、钓虾等水产技艺系列活动，充分展现九江物阜渔丰的岭南水乡特色。九江镇是“中国淡水鱼苗之乡”“中国加州鲈之乡”，水产养殖业已有500多年历史。2023年，全镇养殖鱼塘3.44万亩，鱼苗产值突破12亿元，水产综合产值超35亿元。“捉塘底”是指在鱼塘收成后，排放掉塘内大部分水，村内老少下鱼塘，齐捉塘底的漏网之鱼，这个风俗是九江丰收节活动的特色保留项目。
