Macao is famous worldwide for its tourism and leisure industry, especially the gambling industry, which has boosted its economy. However, Macao is super tiny in terms of land size, and the economyreliestoo much on just one kind of business. These two issues have always been a headache for Macao.

As Macao is small in size and lacks room for development, the central government has offered up Hengqin, the largest island in Zhuhai, as a stage for Macao's moderate diversification.

In 2011, the"Traditional Chinese Medicine Science and Technology Industrial Park of Co-operation between Guangdong and Macao" (hereinafter referred to as“GMTCM Park”) officially became the first joint project between Macao and Guangdong to kick off in Hengqin.

After more than 10 years of construction and development, by the end of 2023, there were 198 registered enterprises in the GMTCM Park, with 65 from Macao. They're into all sorts ofstufflike traditional Chinese medicine, cosmetics, health products, medical equipment, biomedicine, and healthcare services.

横琴：更多中医药从这里走向世界

澳门以旅游休闲业闻名全球，尤其是博彩业曾造就了澳门经济的繁荣。但陆地面积狭小、经济结构单一等问题，一直困扰着澳门。中央政府就把横琴这个珠海面积最大的岛屿作为支持澳门适度多元发展的舞台。

2011年3月，广东和澳门签署合作框架协议，共同开发横琴。4月，“粤澳合作中医药科技产业园”作为两地共同开发横琴的第一个项目正式落地。经过10多年的建设和发展，截至2023年12月底，园区注册企业198家，其中澳门企业共65家，涉及中医药、化妆品、保健品、医疗器械、生物医药、医疗服务等领域。

不久的将来，越来越多的中医药产品，将从横琴走向世界。
