“Nianli” in Maoming: Sing and Danceat the Party

Art and culture | With the sound of gongs and #drums singing and dancing, a display of #fireworks, and a sea of #lanterns light up the night... In the first month of the lunar calendar in Maoming, #Guangdong, the atmosphere of the new year sticks around even at the end of the Spring Festival. #Maoming “Nianli” refers to an array of folk activity, including sacrificing, praying, and celebrating. During “Nianli”, each family entertains guests and friends with "Nianli" #meals and the host family works all day long so that guests can have meals whenever they come. Everyone is welcome, regardless of their relationship with the #family. After midnight, paper #boats carrying unpleasant things will be cremated, symbolizing peace and harmony and indicating the end of “Nianli”. 锣鼓喧天、欢歌起舞、火树银花、满地灯火……农历正月的广东茂名，即便过了十五，年的味道依旧浓郁而灿烂。 茂名年例，是集祭祀、祈祷、欢庆等于一体的民俗活动。年例期间，各家各户招待宾朋“吃年例”，主人家早晚不停，宾客随到随吃，不比熟悉，一概欢迎。午夜过后，将封载着不顺意之事的纸船火化掉，寓意合境平安，年例就此结束。一起加入欢庆的人群一同载歌载舞，共赴茂名年例盛会。
