Liu Yongfu: The Hero Who Defended Taiwan, Treating Guangzhou City as His Second Hometown!

Liu Yongfu was a military strategist and national hero in modern Chinese history. As a renowned general, Liu Yongfu spent over two decades in Guangzhou, where he not only maintained law and order but also assisted the needy and the poor, winning the hearts of the locals. Between 1898 and 1900, in his sixties, Liu Yongfu built a family temple in Guangzhou, as a testament to his strong tie to the city. The names of many places and historical sites in Guangzhou are still associated with him, such as Yongfu Road, Yongfu Village, and Liuyi Pavilion, you name it. The inscription in front of the Nengren Temple on Baiyun Mountain stands as a permanent memorial left by Liu Yongfu to Guangzhou. #LingnanCelebrity

刘永福是中国近代史上的军事家、民族英雄。晚清时期，他两度援越抗法，阵斩法军统帅；中法战争爆发，他转战中越边境，多次大败法军；甲午战争后，他率领台湾军民，开展“反割台斗争”……作为一代名将，刘永福曾驻守广州二十多年，除暴安良、扶弱济贫，深受广州街坊爱戴。1898年至1900年，年过六旬的刘永福修建了这座家庙，足见他已将广州当作第二故乡。时至今日，广州仍有许多与他相关的地名与古迹，比如永福路、永福村、刘义亭等。而白云山能仁寺前的“虎”字石刻，则是刘永福留给广州的永久纪念。
