Carnival kicks off in Brazil with colorful parades and joyful celebrations 2023/2/24 source: International Daily Print

Brazil's legendary carnival season kicked off on Saturday with a colorful parade in the streets of the Brazilian city of Sao Paulo.

People dressed up in elaborate costumes swarmed onto the streets to enjoy the intoxicating beat of samba music in the carnival atmosphere.

Brazil’s carnival reaches its crescendo ahead of the beginning of Lent, a period of privation observed by Christians ahead of the Easter weekend. While other cultures celebrate at the same time, no one does it quite like the Brazilians.

"It's a delight to celebrate together with other people and parade in this city. The pleasure is immeasurable," said a carnival participant.

Sao Paulo canceled carnival celebrations in 2021, and canceled street parades and postponed samba school competitions in 2022 because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

This year is the first time that the city is hosting a full carnival schedule since the outbreak of the pandemic.
