Macao will offer 120,000 free flight tickets this year to lure visitors back after more than three years of COVID-19 curbs, its tourism chief said at a news briefing on Feb 3.
The free tickets will be distributed to visitors from the Chinese mainland, the Taiwan region and overseas, director of the Macao Government Tourism Office Maria Helena de Senna Fernandes told the press.
She also said Macao will receive tour groups from the Chinese mainland starting next Monday.
A circular issued on Friday by China's State Council's Joint Prevention and Control Mechanism, the country's top COVID-19 control task force, said cross-border travel between the mainland and the special administrative regions of Hong Kong and Macao would resume fully from next Monday.
As part of its efforts to woo tourists from the Chinese mainland, Macao will relaunch the Caravan Roadshow Series in cities around the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area in mid-to-late February and "Macao week" promotional events, said the tourism chief.
Meanwhile, the tourist authority will also roll out campaigns targeting the Taiwan region and Southeast Asia, including roadshows in Thailand, she said.
