French Film Week launched in Beijing 2024/4/19 source: International Daily Print

A French Film Week was launched in Beijing on Thursday to bolster cultural communication between China and France.

A launch ceremony was held and attended by representatives from China and France.
Thirty French movies are to be screened at cinemas across Beijing during the week. It is jointly sponsored by the China Media Group (CMG) and the Beijing Municipal People's Government.
"In recent years, China Media Group has come up with a series of high-quality programs and media activities to promote dialog between global civilizations, making contributions to people-to-people exchanges, cultural integration and heart-to-heart links among countries around the world," said Fan Yun, CMG's deputy editor-in-chief, at the ceremony.
A number of documentaries and movies jointly produced by CMG and France TV were also introduced at the ceremony.
"The year 2024 marks the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relationship between China and France and is also the China-France Year of Culture and Tourism. In this special year, the two countries will strengthen cooperation in the film industry. Thirty movies have been selected for the French Film Week, spanning the 60 years of France-China friendship from 1964 to 2024," said Myriam Pavageau, deputy head of mission at the French Embassy in Beijing.
Zhao Weidong, executive deputy director of the Communist Party of China Beijing Municipal Committee's Publicity Department, welcomed French filmmakers to explore cooperation with their Chinese counterparts in highlighting Beijing -- the birthplace of Chinese films.
"We hope to use films as a medium and through the intermingling of light and shadow create a number of masterpieces with Beijing characteristics and style, presenting a new image of a world-class harmonious and livable city. French filmmakers are also welcome to actively join and work with us in creating these masterpieces," said Zhao.
Chairman of the France-China Friendship Group of the French National Assembly Eric Alauzet, along with other guests, sent a video message to the ceremony, wishing the French Film Week a success.
The film week is part of the 14th Beijing International Film Festival scheduled for April 18 to 26.
