The "China Today" Art Week and Chinese Film Festival kicked off in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, on Thursday, to mark the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and Brazil.

The opening ceremony of the event took place at Rio's renowned seaside resort, Copacabana. The Chinese Chamber Orchestra of the Central Conservatory of Music and a number of brilliant young musicians presented classic Chinese melodies and an ensemble performance adapted from well-known Brazilian bossa nova songs with various Chinese instruments such as guzheng, erhu and suona.

This provided Brazilian audience at the event with an enchanting glimpse into Chinese traditional music.

"It's always the highest-level performance that we can imagine. The sound of the Chinese traditional orchestra is so amazing. I am really delightful with this possibility to hear this orchestra again," said Steffen Dauelsberg, a famous Brazilian musician.

"It was amazing! This spectacular performance showcased the brilliance of China's musical culture. I couldn't think of a better way to kick off the art week this time than with the show we saw here today. Everything was marvelous and beautiful, and the performance of musicians and the orchestra was so enchanting. Congratulations!" said Tia Ju, vice president of the Legislative Assembly of the state of Rio de Janeiro.
