Shopping fairs are bustling as people have started to prepare festival goods for the upcoming Spring Festival, China's most important festival and an occasion for family reunions.

The upcoming Spring Festival, or the Chinese Lunar New Year, falls on Feb 10, which will mark the Year of the Loong, also known as the Chinese dragon.

In the capital city of Beijing, more than 300 exhibitors have brought nearly 10,000 varieties of goods at the annual Beijing Spring Festival Shopping Fair held at the National Agricultural Exhibition Center, where customers are able to buy delicacies from across China.

The fair will last from Jan 13 to Feb 6 and opens daily from 08:00 to 17:00. By Saturday, the fair had received an average of 20,000 visitors per day.

An open fair in Guandi Town of northeast China's Jilin Province, which covers over 10,000 square meters, has seen swarming customers buying festival goods ranging from fruits and vegetables, fish and meat, candies and couplets.

The annual Winter Fishing Festival opened on the frozen Ulungur Lake in Fuhai County of northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region on Saturday, starting another season of ice fishing.

For over six decades, fishermen have followed the traditional winter fishing method by putting down a giant net that can be over 1,000 meters long under the ice. A single trawl net can capture more than 5,000 kg of fishes.

"We have come all the way here to enjoy the winter fishing festival. It's really impressive to see fishes being pulled up from icy water," said Wang Chunya, a tourist from Shaanxi Province.

Fuhai County has turned the tradition into a cultural event by holding a winter fishing festival. In addition to fresh fish, people can also buy distinctive products such as milk products, dried and edible mushrooms, fur and leather related products at the fair held in the scenic spot of Ulunggur Lake.

As the Spring Festival approaches, intangible cultural heritage and folk performances have also been staged at the fair to create festive atmosphere.

This year's holiday runs until Feb 17, one day longer than in previous years.
