Japan's largest fashion expo shows style can be sustainable with eco-friendly materials, recycled cl 发布日期:2023/4/17 来源:International Daily 打印

The ongoing Fashion World Tokyo (FaW) has been proving that old items need never go out of fashion, with the event displaying trendy designs made of recycled materials while highlighting the idea of sustainability in apparels and accessories.

The three-day show, which is the largest fashion industry gathering in Japan, wraps up on Friday after featuring the latest creations from more than 800 enterprises from over 20 countries and regions worldwide. The organizers set up a specialized Sustainable Fashion Expo to showcase the top ecological-friendly garments from all around the world.

The event has shown that even everyday garbage can still have a use after being treated by modern organic material technologies and made into something fit to wear. For instance, a selection of light, breathable and quick-dry shirts at one exhibitor's booth have been made out of discarded plastic bottles.

Other fashion companies have brought fabrics made from ground coffee, milk cartons and other unlikely food wastes. Though still being sold at a higher cost than traditional clothes, these innovative outfits have opened up new ways to achieve sustainable goals.

What's more, fast moving consumer goods companies are also decomposing and reusing discarded clothing, as an effective way to reduce the environmental burden.

With over 1,300 tons of clothes are thrown away every day in Japan, nearly all of which is buried or burnt, these companies are showing that recycled clothes can offer a viable solution to combat this considerable daily waste.
