A zoo in southwest China's Sichuan Province is undertaking a scientific weight loss program for an aging leopard after the feline went viral online for its chubby appearance.

The 16-year-old leopard, equivalent to 70 in human years, was seen resting leisurely by the edge of its enclosure at the Panzhihua Zoo.
Due to its age, the leopard's shaggy fur and low physical activity have led to an appearance that might be mistaken for being overweight, catching the eyes of visitors.
"I think the leopard looks chubby and adorable, which is very cute. It seems to have a really good diet," said visitor Yang Ming.
The veterinarian said the leopard has been cared for in accordance with the zoo's standards, receiving a daily diet of beef supplemented with chicken or rabbit meat, and undergoing regular physical examinations.
The zoo said they have implemented a scientific weight loss program to ensure the well-being of the big cat, allowing it to enjoy and healthy and happy old age.
