Nearly 130 million passenger trips were made during the three-day New Year holiday ending on Monday, according to China's Ministry of Transport.

During the holiday, the number of railway and road trips reached 43.82 million and 77.41 million respectively, while the number of waterway and air passenger trips stood at about 1.91 million and 5.1 million.
Most of the trips were short and medium distance ones, and passengers had a lot of choices in terms of means of transportation, which greatly facilitated their traveling, according to an official.
"During the New Year holiday, commercial passengers increased by more than 70 percent over the same period last year, showing people's strong demand for traveling for tourism purposes or visiting relatives or friends. This has boosted consumption and shown the vitality of China," said Liu Dongmei, deputy director of the Big Data Industry Research and Development Center of the Highway Institute of the Ministry of Transport.
