With an ambition of building itself into a “City of Craftsmen” and a pioneering city with modern industry, Qingdao has set up the “Qingdao Craftsman Day” on July 26 of every year from 2023 onwards to pay tribute to craftsmen and make the brand “Qingdao Craftsman” better known.

Qingdao has long attached great importance to highly skilled personnel training. According to rough estimates, Qingdao boasts of three skilled personnel rated as “Craftsmen of the Nation”, six winners of “China Skill Award”, the supreme Chinese governmental award for highly skilled personnel, and 138 “Chinese Skilled Technicians”. Qingdao is home to 19 national level work platforms for highly skilled personnel, comprising three World Skills Competition training bases, nine national highly skilled personnel training bases and seven national level skill master studios, has set up more than 2,000 innovation-driven studios of all kinds at all levels and trained more than 8,000 skilled personnel at all levels, and sees an annual average of more than 5,000 application-based innovation achievements by workers.
