Autumn is unfolding in picturesque Wuyuan County, east China's Jiangxi Province, with its stunning scenery of colorful harvests displayed on sun-drying racks attracting throngs of visitors to experience local customs and cultural tourism activities.
The tourism market in Wuyuan, dubbed "China's most beautiful countryside", remains prosperous following the National Day holiday earlier this month. The arrival of the bountiful autumn has brought another tourist peak to Wuyuan's Huangling Scenic Area, where the traditional practice of drying crops has created a vibrant, scroll painting-like view.
The site is famous for well-preserved ancient villages with distinctive white-walled, black-tiled Hui-style architecture nestled among the hills. In autumn, local farmers would sun-dry their harvest, placing crimson chili peppers and golden corn on round bamboo trays. This traditional practice is a must-see attraction for tourists in this season.
Although the annual "golden week" of National Day holiday ended on Oct 8, the Huangling Scenic Area continues to welcome over 15,000 tourists daily, with weekend visits surpassing 20,000 per day.
"The scenery here is truly breathtaking, with rich colors and very distinct layers," said a visitor.
"I think the architecture here embodies a historical beauty, while the crops carry the beauty of a bumper harvest. When combined, they are like a piece of artwork, very beautiful," said another visitor.
