China saw 2.433 billion passenger trips during the National Day and Mid-Autumn Festival holiday from Oct 1 to 8, representing a daily average of 304 million trips, up 6.3 percent year on year, according to data released by the Ministry of Transport on Thursday.
Among the passenger trips, 153.96 million were handled by railways, with a daily average of 19.24 million, up 2.6 percent year on year.
Road traffic recorded 2.248 billion passenger trips, averaging more than 280 million per day, a 6.6 percent increase compared to last year.
Notable increases were also observed in waterway transportation. A total of 11.66 million passenger trips were made via ferries and other water transport services, averaging around 1.46 million daily, up 4.1 percent year on year.
Meanwhile, the civil aviation sector made approximately 19.14 million passenger trips, with a daily average of 2.39 million, a 3.3 percent rise over the same period in 2024.
Despite the increased pressure during the holiday travel rush, the country's transportation systems still maintained steady and smooth operation, impressing many international travelers who came to China to experience the vibrant holiday celebrations.
"I'm still surprised by the transportation here. It left me positively surprised. I really like how fast they (the trains) are," said a Latvian traveler.
During the holiday, over 13,000 trains ran across the country each day, while more than 19,000 flights took to the skies, effectively supporting the massive flow of holiday travelers.
"The average of over 300 million daily cross-regional movements drove a boom in consumption in the catering, accommodation, trade and other sectors during the holiday. The well-developed transport system has strongly supported the booming holiday economy," said Gao Bo, deputy director of the Transport Services Department.
