Vibrant Mid-Autumn Festival celebrations were staged across the globe, uniting overseas Chinese and local residents in the spirit of tradition and cultural appreciation.
A variety of cultural showcases, coupled with interactive experiences such as crafting mooncakes, practicing Chinese calligraphy, and donning traditional Hanfu attire, further enhanced the lively holiday atmosphere.
In Brussels, Belgium, a Mid-Autumn Festival concert was held at the Chinese Cultural Center on September 22, attended by over 160 Chinese and Belgian representatives from various sectors.
Both locals and overseas Chinese participated in a series of traditional events, including mooncake making, at the event.
"In your culture, it's traditional for family gatherings and watching the moon. That's all I know and we live close by, so we decided to come and check it out, and learn a little bit more about Chinese traditions," said a Brussels resident.
In Jakarta, Indonesia, a Mid-Autumn Festival garden party attracted many local residents to experience Chinese culture on Sunday.
Participants made and tasted mooncakes, picked up brushes to write Chinese characters like "Mid-Autumn" and "Fortune," and also put on exquisite Hanfu as a way to fully immerse themselves in the festive joy.
"Get to know more about Chinese culture. And people are so pretty here, because it looks so pretty, I like the colors, I like the decorations," a young lady said.
For Auckland, New Zealand, the city has recently hosted its first-ever Mid-Autumn Festival projection event on Wednesday, drawing inspiration from traditional Chinese ink painting.
Iconic Mid-Autumn elements, such as the Chinese mythology figure of the Moon Goddess Chang'e and her pet Jade Rabbit, and mooncakes, were projected onto the city's landmark Sky Tower, allowing local residents to experience the unique charm of Chinese culture.
"The moon festival, Mid-autumn Festival, is one of my favorite Chinese festivals of the year. Every culture has important events, festivals, and celebrations, and seeing how we're both different and the same is very important, and a special way for us to unite over amazing activities, delicious food. I love moon cakes. Also, special times together with our family," said Wendy, representative from the New Zealand International Art Exchange Association.
The Mid-Autumn Festival is a major traditional Chinese festival celebrated on the 15th day of the eighth month on the Chinese lunar calendar, when the moon reaches its fullest and brightest on the night. This year, the day falls on October 6.
During the festival, families and friends gather to share mooncakes, admire the moon, and light lanterns to celebrate the joy of reunion.
