BEIJING -- China's cinema attendance during this year's Spring Festival holiday hit a historic high with over 161 million as of 15:24 on Saturday, the last day of the eight-day break, according to Maoyan, one of the country's biggest online ticketing platforms.
The Spring Festival holiday, typically one of the most lucrative movie seasons in China, saw a slew of domestic productions released this year, including comedy film YOLO, comedy drama Pegasus 2, realistic drama Article 20, and animated film Boonie Bears: Time Twist.
"I have watched three movies which were released during the Spring Festival holiday. All were truly intriguing," said Chen Shengnan, a moviegoer in Nanchang, the provincial capital of Jiangxi in east China.
"This year's YOLO, Pegasus 2, Article 20 and the latest installment of Boonie Bears are quite favored by moviegoers," said Yu Chao, vice president of Capital Cinema in Beijing.
China's box office revenue during the Spring Festival holiday exceeded 8 billion yuan (about 1.12 billion U.S. dollars) as of 17:40 on Saturday, with YOLO, Pegasus 2 and Boonie Bears: Time Twist leading the chart.
