HUAIAN -- Drones with improved controlling system have been playing their part in celebrating the Spring Festival across China, wowing viewers with breathtaking performance of higher-resolution 3D images.
Wednesday's Huai'an City in east China's Jiangsu Province saw its night lit up as 2,000 drones flied up together, like shining stars, to stage performances specially designed to satisfy Spring Festival holidaymakers.
Above the skyline, thousands of drones made a giant golden Chinese dragon, which then flew to chase a ball and appeared with a pair of Spring Festival couplets, sending good wishes and encouragement to amazed viewers.
"Seeing the giant dragon made up by the drones rise high into the sky, I was completely shocked. And I hope my life will take a step further, too," said a viewer.
"This year's Spring Festival holiday saw our single-day customer visits exceed 35,000. For the residents, without traveling outside Huai'an, they can enjoy a light show that gives them a strong sense of technology," said Xiao Qin.
The drone performance team explained how the movements of the drones were improved.
"Compared with the previous generation of drones, these drones can narrow the minimum flying distance from 2.5 meters to 1.4 meters due to advancement of positioning technology. As a result, more drones are allowed to fly in the same space. That means we have more pixel points and we can make up more vivid pictures and more agile movements [with drones]," said Chen Xuekun, technical engineer of the drone performance.
Fascinating shows up in the sky, as feasts for the eyes, have become a popular way to attract visitors nationwide.
Teng Guoji, manager of the drone performance project said that throughout this year's Spring Festival holiday, his team alone received over 120 bookings across the country, almost doubling that of last Spring Festival.
"We received orders from Langzhong City in Sichuan Province, Xiangyang City in Hubei Province, Mawei District in Fuzhou City, and Danyang City in Jiangsu Province and more. Around the same time last year, our project almost wrapped up, but this year after we finish this performance in hand, we still have another to do," said Teng.
