Museums across China have staged a wide array of exhibitions featuring Chinese culture, especially "loong (dragon)," for visitors to have a good Spring Festival holiday that runs from Feb 10 to 17.
This year's Spring Festival, also known as the Chinese New Year fell on Feb 10, ushering in the Year of the Dragon, according to the Chinese zodiac order. Thus, exhibitions themed the dragon are wowing visitors in many museums.
In the Chinese culture, the dragon is regarded as an immensely revered and auspicious creature. Ancient Chinese believed that the dragon deity controlled the winds and rain, safeguarding the harvest.
At the provincial museum of northwest China's Qinghai, cultural relics with dragon elements from different periods have attracted continuous streams of visitors.
The National Museum of Chinese Writing in Anyang City of central China's Henan Province is displaying the comprehensive inheritance and innovation of Chinese character culture, while holding interactive activities that enable visitors to learn about oracle bone inscriptions,
gain a more intuitive understanding of the evolution of Chinese characters, and appreciate the wisdom of ancient people.
"I came all the way from Tianjin to participate in this evening event at the National Museum of Chinese Writing for the first time. It's really awe-inspiring to learn about the evolution of the characters, from oracle bone inscriptions to paper writing. I like traditional culture, so I think this trip is worthwhile," said Song Qun, a tourist from north China's Tianjin Municipality.
The Zhangzhou Museum in east China's Fujian Province held a themed event to celebrate the Spring Festival by highlighting intangible cultural heritage with six major thematic exhibitions, including a "Maritime Silk Road" exhibition. Besides, the museum held various traditional cultural activities like carving, paper cutting, New Year painting and puppet show.
The museum received nearly 100,000 visits during the first three days of the Spring Festival holiday.
In Jiayin County of northeast China's Heilongjiang Province, dinosaur fossils, assembled into complete dinosaur skeletons, have attracted many visitors at the Dinosaur National Geopark.
