SANYA -- The Hainan Island International Film Festival opened its fifth edition on Dec 16 in Sanya, a resort city in China's southernmost Hainan Province.
This week-long event features a host of movies from around the world, providing a platform for exchanges between industry professionals from home and abroad.
Twenty-four films have been nominated for this year's Golden Coconut Award, selected from over 4,000 entries, produced by filmmakers from over 100 countries.
A 13-member international jury will pick the winners. In addition to the competition, master classes, forums, and different sections for film screenings will also take place during the festival.
First held in 2018, the Hainan Island International Film Festival is one of Hainan's first series of projects in building itself into a pilot free trade zone and a free trade port.
