People's enthusiasm for ice and snow travel continues to heat up as temperatures are dropping in winter days, with a large number of travelers flocking into snowy and picturesque tourist resorts in northeastern part of China.
A special tourist train set off from Shenyang City of Liaoning Province on Friday, carrying its first batch of passengers to their snow-covered destinations.
The train service was inaugurated during the 2020 Spring Festival and becomes popular every year for its specially designed routes.
Passengers can enjoy one-stop service on the train and also be able to go and visit scenic spots along the rail journey. In a seven-day trip, they can marvel at the unique blend of Western and Oriental architecture in the Puppet Manchurian Eight Ministries in Jilin Province, and immerse themselves in an enchanting winter wonderland in Harbin City of Heilongjiang Province. Travelers can also explore various kinds of ice and snow activities and sports, and, of course, have a relaxing leisure time in fairyland-like scenic spots during their journey.
Known as China's "North Pole," Mohe City in Heilongjiang attracts tourists across the country every year to experience an "extremely cold journey." This year, a dragon boat race on ice in Beiji Village in Mohe is adding more fun here.
"I've never drove a dragon boat like this. It's quite a novel experience. And I will fight for the championship!" said a tourist from central China's Henan Province.
To meet the arrival of a large number of tourists, the snow resort in the village has upgraded the existing ski trails and added more amusement projects, such as snowmobile rides and snow tubing.
"We came here to Mohe to experience the unique local customs in the northernmost part of the country. We also planned to take a ski trip, take in the sights, and have some fun with the kids," said a tourist from Nanjing City of east China's Jiangsu Province.
Data showed that since the beginning of winter, there has been a significant increase in tourism bookings in the Mohe area of the Greater Khingan Range. Hotel reservations in December have increased by 50 percent compared to November, and flight bookings to Mohe have climbed by 1.2 times compared to the same period of 2019. Routes with special programs, such as chasing aurora, winter fishing, and feeding reindeer, are particularly popular among tourists.
