Qingdao can be said to be a “hidden champion” in the ceremony of the 36th China Golden Rooster Awards, which is known as a supreme award in Chinese film circle. The three films photographed in Qingdao, namely Creation of The God:Kingdom of Storms, The Wandering EarthⅡand Home Coming, have bagged six prizes, including the best feature film award, the special award from the panel of judges, the best cinematography and the best arts.
The prize-winning films are attributable to Qingdao’s technological breakthroughs and production strength in the film industry. To make The Wandering Earth II, the crew members went separately to the US, France, Iceland and Columbia to find views to photograph. After a lapse of less than one second, all materials from the countries were collected and presented to Guo Fan, director of the film. “Qingdao has pioneered the application of transnational image data transmission and distribution in China, thanks to the Qingdao Oriental Movie Metropolis’ dedication to making progress in film science and technology.” said Liu Yang, a chief digital imaging technician (DIT) for The Wandering Earth II.
In the opinion of Liu Yang, maintaining its first-mover advantages is of vital importance for Qingdao to become a model of China’s film industrialization. Qingdao has risen to prominence in all respects, compared with other Chinese cities where the film industry also thrives.
In respect of standardization, thanks to the collaboration with big-budget production teams, Qingdao has built up experience on the industrial standardization of Chinese and overseas film projects, and establish a complete set of system covering conceptual design, special physical effects, clothing, motion capture, DIT and virtual shooting.
In respect of service, it is a rare experience among Chinese film and TV bases to cooperate with over 1,000-member crews for more than two years.
In respect of accumulation of “digital assets”, the Qingdao Oriental Movie Metropolis has introduced a slew of special effect blockbusters, whose digital images are sustaining in terms of generation and development. The accumulation of such “digital assets” helps the Qingdao Oriental Movie Metropolis occupy a commanding position in film science and technology.
In June this year, Qingdao Haifa Group and Cinema College, Macau University of Science and Technology signed a cooperation agreement, according to which the two parties will co-build the China Film Industrialization Research Center and make Qingdao become the place of origin of China’s film industrialization standards. The “Qingdao model” will undoubtedly act as the mainstay of China’s film industrialization. (Mi Jingyu)
