“The time needed to travel from Jakarta, capital city of Indonesia to Bandung, a famous tourist destination, is reduced from more than three hours to around 40 minutes now.” The operation of the Jakarta-Bandung Railway, a flagship project constructed by China and Indonesia under the Belt and Road Initiative and attracting common concerns of leaders of the two countries, has benefited greatly those who live along the railway line and injected new impetus into regional development.
On October 17, 2023, the Jakarta-Bandung Railway was officially put into operation, ushering Indonesia into an era of high-speed railway. On the same day, China’s President Xi Jinping and his Indonesian counterpart Joko Widodo, who came to China to attend the Third Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation, jointly unveiled the operation of the railway in Beijing, thousands of miles away. The railway, which has evolved from a vision to reality and will facilitate fast development to create good lives, has received great attention from leaders of the two countries.
To help the high-speed trains operate in a safe and reliable way, CRRC Sifang Co., Ltd., the supplier of train vehicles, has dispatched a team of 100-plus members , composed of technical experts, maintenance and after-sales personnel, to reside locally. The railway-related passenger services, equipment maintenance and other extended services in auxiliary industries will help generate 30,000 jobs.
In the process of designing and manufacturing the train sets with a high speed of 350km/h for the Jakarta-Bandung Railway, characterized by high speed, application of intelligent technology, environmental adaptability, comfort and customization, CRRC Qingdao Sifang Co., Ltd. has taken advantage of advanced and well-established technologies of China’s standard Fuxin bullet trains, put into consideration local operating conditions and pursued the integration with Indonesian indigenous culture. After taking the railway, local residents have shared the aspiration that railway lines will be increasingly built through cooperation between China and Indonesia. ( Liu Lanxing)
