JILIN -- Ice and snow have played a significant role in warming up winter tourism in the colder parts of China, particularly regions in the northwest and northeast, in the frigid winter season, with regions boasting rich ice and snow resources ready to receive the incoming flocks of tourists.
Northeast China, consisting of Liaoning, Jilin, and Heilongjiang Provinces, is known for its rich ice-and-snow resources. The region, once the nation's heavy-industry heartland, has seen an escalating winter sports boom and found golden opportunities courtesy of its silvery snow in recent years.
Recently, many areas in northeast China's Heilongjiang Province have experienced snowfall. Despite the low temperatures, people's enthusiasm for winter sports has soared. People have been flocking to ski resorts and scenic areas to engage in snow activities and admire the beauty of the winter scenery.
As November sets in and temperatures drop, Heilongjiang enters its peak season for ice-and-snow tourism.
"In the southern regions where there is no snow, we have a strong yearning for this icy and snowy world," said a tourist from south China.
