BEIJING, Sept. 22 (Xinhua) -- Argentina's Boca Juniors and Lithuania's Rytas Vilnius won over Beijing Royal Fighters and RSSB Tigers from Rwanda, respectively, as the 2026 FIBA Intercontinental Cup kicked off in Beijing on Tuesday.

The Royal Fighters had a slow start on home court, while the Boca Juniors controlled the pace to finish the first quarter 24-22. Although the Boca Juniors didn't find rhythm in three-pointers, they had a smooth teamwork to extend the lead to 16 points at halftime.

Grant Riller led the home team to bounce back in the second half and once narrowed the gap to eight points, but the Boca Juniors played solid defense to secure the victory 88-78.

Riller scored a game-high 24 points, while Leonardo Lema and Francisco Caffaro contributed 17 points for the Boca Juniors, respectively.

"The Boca Juniors communicated well in defense. I didn't find many chances in the paint. They did really great in dealing with details, and we need to learn from them on both sides," said Beijing center Shen Zijie.

In another match on Tuesday, Rytas Vilnius beat RSSB Tigers 107-89. Kay Bruhnke of Rytas Vilnius had a game-high 22 points with four three-pointers.

With six participating teams, the tournament consists of two groups - Rytas Vilnius, RSSB Tigers and Shanghai Sharks in group A; NBA G League United, Boca Juniors and Beijing Royal Fighters in group B. Top two teams of each group will reach the semifinals.

On Wednesday, Shanghai Sharks meets RSSB Tigers, while the Royal Fighters takes on NBA G League United. The title will be decided on Sunday.
