YOKOHAMA, Japan, Aug. 9 (Xinhua) -- Japanese siblings Miwa and Tomokazu Harimoto claimed the women's and men's singles titles, respectively, at the 2025 World Table Tennis (WTT) Champions Yokohama on Sunday.

World No. 3 Miwa Harimoto ended Chen Xingtong's title defense with a 4-2 victory in the women's final.

Harimoto edged a tight opening game 13-11 before taking the second 11-7. Chen responded by winning the third 11-9, but the Japanese top seed held firm in another close game to take the fourth 11-9.

Chen raced through the fifth 11-1 to keep her hopes alive before Harimoto regained her composure and closed out the match 11-7 in the sixth.

"It was a tough match, and of course I came into it prepared for it to be difficult, so in that sense, it went pretty much as I had expected," Harimoto reflected after the match.

"Last year in Yokohama, I lost very early. So I came into this tournament determined to play a lot more matches this year. I never imagined that I would actually be able to win the title."

Earlier in the semifinals, Harimoto overcame China's Wang Yidi 4-2 (4-11, 12-10, 12-10, 14-12, 8-11, 11-6). Chen secured the other final berth with a 4-1 win over compatriot Kuai Man (11-8, 11-7, 11-9, 5-11, 11-5).

In the men's final, defending champion Tomokazu Harimoto recovered from a slow start to defeat South Korean youngster Oh Junsung 4-1.

Oh took the opening game 11-7, but Harimoto quickly turned the contest around, winning the next four games 11-7, 11-4, 11-8 and 11-7 to retain his Yokohama title.

Harimoto advanced to the final with a 4-2 victory over compatriot Sora Matsushima (11-4, 11-9, 8-11, 15-17, 11-5, 11-9), while Oh beat Japan's Hiroto Shinozuka 4-1 (11-4, 11-4, 7-11, 11-7, 11-6) in the other semifinal.
