BERLIN, Nov. 2 (Xinhua) -- Wouter Burger scored twice as Hoffenheim climbed to sixth in the Bundesliga with a 3-2 comeback win over Wolfsburg on Sunday.
Hoffenheim traveled north boasting one of the league's best away records, while Wolfsburg was desperate to end a poor home run and ease pressure on coach Paul Simonis after its midweek Cup exit.
The hosts opened the scoring in the 14th minute when Mohamed Amoura latched onto Mattias Svanberg's pass, rounded goalkeeper Oliver Baumann and finished calmly. Burger leveled with a first-time finish from Vladimir Coufal's cross shortly after the half-hour mark.
Coach Christian Ilzer's halftime changes turned the match around. Five minutes into the second half, Andrej Kramaric delivered a pinpoint cross that Grischa Promel headed in to put Hoffenheim ahead. Wolfsburg responded quickly as Amoura powered home his second from Sael Kumbedi's pass in the 56th minute, but Burger restored the lead six minutes later with another composed strike from Promel's delivery.
Ihlas Bebou's late effort was ruled out for offside after a VAR review, but Hoffenheim held firm to seal its third straight league victory.
"The positive thing is that even though we were not fully alert every minute, we managed to turn a game around again," Ilzer said. "It was a tough match, the Cup battle on Tuesday took a lot out of us. But still, winning here says a lot about our team."
The defeat increased pressure on Simonis ahead of Friday's trip to Bremen. Hoffenheim hosts RB Leipzig on Saturday.
Elsewhere, Cologne cruised past nine-man Hamburg 4-1 at home, with four different players finding the net. HSV's resistance crumbled after two red cards, allowing Cologne to close out a comfortable win.
