LONDON, Feb. 19 (Xinhua) -- Crystal Palace on Monday named former Eintracht Frankfurt boss Oliver Glasner as their new manager after veteran Roy Hodgson stepped down earlier in the day.
Glasner has agreed a contract until June 2026 and will take charge of his first game against Burnley at the weekend.
Glasner joins Palace after leading Eintracht to the 2022 UEFA Europa League title in his first season in charge and the final of the German Cup in his second season, before leaving the club in 2023 after a 10-game winless run.
"I am very happy to join Crystal Palace. I am looking forward to working with the talented squad, meeting the club's supporters and experiencing the Selhurst Park atmosphere I have heard so much about," said the Austrian.
Glasner replaces former England coach Hodgson, hours after the 76-year-old issued a statement informing that he was stepping down from his position.
Hodgson had looked to be on the verge of the sack after 10 defeats in 16 games, and was taken to hospital after falling ill during a training session last Thursday.
Hodgson said in his statement, "I have fully enjoyed my time here across six seasons, as it has given me the chance to work with top-class players and staff doing what I love every day."
"However, I understand, given recent circumstances, it may be prudent at this time for the club to plan ahead, and therefore I have taken the decision to step aside so that the club can bring forward their plans for a new manager, as intended for this summer.
"I am confident that the season will finish well and I wish the team every success in the weeks, months and seasons to come."
Hodgson became the oldest coach in the history of the Premier League when he returned to Crystal Palace for a second spell in charge after Patrick Vieira's sacking last season.
He saved the south London club from relegation, but was coming under increasing pressure owing to his conservative tactics and what fans viewed as a lack of ambition from the club.
