Rayo Vallecano sacks coach Rodriguez after poor run of form 2024/2/14 source: Print

MADRID, Feb. 14 (Xinhua) -- Madrid-based Rayo Vallecano said it has sacked coach Francisco Rodriguez after a run of poor results.

"Rayo Vallecano communicate the sacking of Francisco Rodriguez as first team coach, along with his technical staff," confirmed the club on social media.

The 45-year-old has lost his job following Sunday's 2-1 defeat to Mallorca, which means Rayo has won just one of its last 14 league games, with that win away to Getafe at the start of January.

That run of results leaves the club from the south of Madrid with 24 points from 24 games, seven points above the relegation zone ahead of the visit of Real Madrid next Sunday.

Rodriguez replaced Andoni Iraola in the summer after Iraola moved to Bournemouth and Rayo enjoyed a bright start to the campaign, threatening to repeat the two successful seasons under its former coach.
