MEXICO CITY, Dec. 18 (Xinhua) -- Club America netted three extra-time goals as they beat Tigres UANL 3-0 to secure their 14th Liga MX title at Azteca stadium on Sunday.

The result handed America a 4-1 victory on aggregate following the teams' 1-1 draw in Thursday's first leg.

After a goalless 90 minutes in the second leg of the final, the hosts took the lead in the opening seconds of extra time through Julian Quinones, who saw his initial attempt blocked by goalkeeper Nahuel Guzman before he bundled home the rebound.

Tigres were reduced to 10 men shortly after Guzman was shown a second yellow card for a bad challenge on Quinones.

America capitalized on their numerical advantage through Richard Sanchez, who ran unchecked into the box before rifling a shot into the top-right corner.

Jonathan Rodriguez put the result beyond doubt as he cut onto his right foot and curled a rising shot into the far corner.

It marked America's first top-flight triumph since 2018 and denied Tigres the chance to become only the fourth team in Liga MX history to win back-to-back titles.
