RIO DE JANEIRO, Oct. 9 (Xinhua) -- Gabriel Jesus said Monday that he is ready to play anywhere in Brazil's attack as the five-time world champions prepare for World Cup qualifiers against Venezuela and Uruguay.
Jesus has mostly been deployed centrally by Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta following his July 2022 move from Manchester City.
But he revealed that Brazil manager Fernando Diniz told him he would like to use the 26-year-old in a wider role - a position he relished as a teenager at Palmeiras - in a bid to better utilize his pace crossing ability.
"At Palmeiras, I played a lot out wide with the freedom to cut inside," Jesus told a news conference. "Then I started playing more centrally. The first thing Diniz said to me was that he wanted to see Gabriel from Palmeiras and from City."
Jesus has scored 19 goals in 61 matches for Brazil since making his international debut as a 19-year-old in 2016. Among the lessons he has learned along the way is a need to seize the moment, without getting carried away with success or dragged down by failure.
"What I've learned is that there is no time for regrets or to celebrate things too much," Jesus said.
"Every time you play for the national team, you have to perform. It doesn't matter if you score because you have to repeat it in the next match. That's what football at the elite level is all about.
He added: "If you aspire to achieve great things, that's the attitude you have to take. I want to keep improving as a person and a player. I prefer not to talk about my favorite position because my main goal is to help in whichever position the coach gives me."
Brazil will play Venezuela in Cuiaba on Oct. 12 and Uruguay in Montevideo five days later.
The five-time world champions began their qualifying campaign for the 2026 World Cup with victories over Bolivia and Peru last month.
