QUITO, Sept. 12 (Xinhua) -- Felix Torres scored either side of halftime as Ecuador came from a goal down to secure a 2-1 home win over Uruguay in their 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier on Tuesday.

Athletico Paranaense winger Agustin Canobbio put the visitors ahead with a superb display of skill in the 38th minute.

The 24-year-old received Maximiliano Araujo's pass with his back to goal before turning and firing in the same motion to beat goalkeeper Hernan Galindez from the edge of the six-yard box.

Torres equalized on the stroke of halftime when his attempted header after Moises Caicedo's corner flew into the net off his right shoulder.

Veteran forward Enner Valencia missed the chance to give his side the lead with a wayward penalty attempt following a Nahitan Nandez foul on Pervis Estupinan.

But Santos Laguna defender Torres saved Valencia's blushes by sliding home from the edge of the six-yard box after Kendry Paez's cross.
