BUENOS AIRES, Aug. 21 (Xinhua) -- Newell's Old Boys scored either side of halftime to begin the second stage of the 2023 Argentine Primera Division season with a 2-0 home win over Central Cordoba.

Gustavo Canto gifted the hosts the lead with a 35th-minute own goal before Brian Aguirre doubled the advantage eight minutes from time.

Newell's were forced to play the last 20 minutes with only 10 men after Jherson Mosquera was shown a second yellow card for a bad tackle.

In Monday's only other Primera Division fixture, Huracan eased to a 2-0 home win over Banfield.

Matias Coccaro put the hosts ahead with a 74th-minute strike and Nicolas Cordero put the result beyond doubt by converting an 88th-minute penalty.
