The Spring/Summer 2025 edition of Shanghai Fashion Week kicked off on Wednesday night, drawing an increasing number of foreign designers and buyers to one of the biggest fashion galas in Asia.
With the debut of the works of renowned Chinese fashion designer Lyu Yan, the spring and summer 2025 collections has been officially unveiled at the city's Xintiandi fashionable district. Lyu's new desgins this season continue her style of simple cutting.
"This season continues our unique 'female dominant style.' We have combined some retro elements from the 1980s," said Lyu, founder of women's clothing brand Comme Moi.
In addition to a dazzling array of runway shows, showrooms housing over 300 brands are ready to welcome buyers.
It's the second season for Shanghai Fashion Week this year, and this time the event is set to see a greater presence of foreign designers. Over 50 percent of exhibitors at the fair are international brands that are exploring opportunities throughout the Chinese market.
It's the first time for Vietnamese designer Linh Nga to attend a fashion week outside Vietnam. She believes her evening dress design caters to the taste of Chinese consumers.
"I decide to go to Shanghai. This is the first gate to go international because Shanghai is the biggest one, the biggest fashion week in the world and in Asia," said Lin Nga, founder of Linh Nga Couture.
This season's fashion week has also been welcoming buyers. Having already toured the previous season this March, U.S. buyer Marvin Revells is back again to Shanghai.
"It is different than Paris or New York. It seems more innovative, more technology is being used and more creativity. So I think it's a fresh take on fashion. So far, I really enjoy the 3D footwear. That's something very freshing and new for us," said Revells.
Fashion activities this season will last until October 17 with hundreds of commercial and designer brands showing their looks for the spring and summer season next year.
