A global community for young sinologists was inaugurated on Saturday at the ongoing 2025 World Chinese Language Conference in Beijing, providing a prestigious platform for individuals passionate about China and the study of the Chinese language.
The 2025 World Chinese Language Conference opened in Beijing on Friday, attracting nearly 2,000 participants, including educators, university leaders, and diplomats from over 160 countries and regions. The conference featured a diverse range of activities focusing on Chinese language education and the promotion of Chinese culture.
During the session on "Cross-Civilization Dialogue and the Cultivation of Young Scholars in China Studies," the Center for Languages Education and Cooperation under China's Ministry of Education announced the establishment of a global community for young sinologists, offering young scholars from various countries participating in the China Studies Program a platform to regularly meet to discuss Chinese language learning, the study of Chinese culture, and the mutual understanding of civilizations.
"This community is an essential resource and a significant platform for us. With China's growing influence on the international stage, we need firsthand materials to understand the country," said Alaa Mamdouh Akef, a young sinologist from Egypt, also an assistant professor at School of Foreign Languages, Peking University.
"Since I started learning Chinese, I've found new friends. Many people, students from various countries are eager to learn about China and its culture," said Patricia Amate Nu?ez, a young sinologist from Spain, also a researcher at the Institute of Communication and Society at the University of Almeria.
Launched by the Center for Languages Education and Cooperation, the China Studies Program is dedicated to providing young scholars studying China overseas with opportunities and support for doctoral studies in China. Since 2013, it has served over 1,000 people.
"We are proud to be one of the first universities to participate in the China Studies Program. As global interest in the Chinese language and culture grows, our goal is to present an authentic, dimensional, and comprehensive China to the world. It is a two-way exchange, and mutual learning between civilizations will lead to greater outcomes," said Jia Wenjian, president of Beijing Foreign Studies University.
