Film studio in Chongqing emerges as premium venue for SCO cinematic cooperation 2025/9/5 source: International Daily Print

The Yongchuan Sci-Tech Film Studio in Yongchuan District of southwest China's Chongqing Municipality has emerged as a premium venue for cinematic cooperation among member states of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO).

In early July, Yongchuan hosted the five-day 2025 SCO Film Festival, bringing together filmmakers from China, Russia, Belarus, Pakistan, and other SCO member states.
The festival showcased a rich tapestry of culturally distinctive film projects, highlighting the growing role of the Yongchuan studio in boosting cultural exchange.
The studio boasts a 3,000-square-meter virtual soundstage where background screens change dynamically as cameras move, rendering high-quality visuals instantly.
This real-time rendering system dramatically reduces set construction costs and shooting delays, offering filmmakers unprecedented efficiency and creative flexibility.
"Now we're actually in an adventurous fantasy scene in which there are many magical creatures. Before you is a robotic bear, which can participate in filming according to our production needs," said Li Chao, executive director of the studio, while showing a China Central Television reporter around their facility.
The studio's digital soundstage combines virtual production with motion-capture technology, enabling real-time rendering that allows directors to see final visuals during filming, eliminating the need for extensive post-production.
According to Chen Liang, manager of the studio, the facility has attracted growing international interest.
"Many SCO member countries have come to us to discuss cooperation, expressing interest in filming their movies at our Yongchuan Sci-Tech Film Studio. Currently, we are having in-depth discussions with a Pakistani team about shooting a train scene. They became very interested after seeing a demo clip of a similar train sequence we had previously showcased, as such scenes are extremely difficult to film. They believe our studio is an ideal place to realize it. Moreover, we are also in talks with a production team from Belarus regarding a historical drama," said Chen.
