A Brazilian cultural event was recently held in Beijing, fostering cultural exchanges between China and Brazil ahead of the upcoming BRICS Summit in Rio de Janeiro.

The event, attended by Brazilian expatriates and local Chinese residents, featured traditional Brazilian cuisine and samba dancing, offering a vibrant showcase of the South American nation's culture.

Taking place in late June, it allowed Brazilian attendees to celebrate Festa Junina -- a traditional Brazilian festival that lasts the entire month -- while in the Chinese capital. One such attendee was eager to try a taste of home in the form of a fried meat treat.
"I love the food because I was dying to get a coxinha, which is typical Brazilian. I think it would be very nice if we had more of these kinds of parities not only Festa Junina, but sambas and carnival and all these things that actually brings us back to Brazil," said Juliana Sanchez, a Brazilian resident living in Beijing.

As lanterns illuminated the evening, the gathering transcended cultural boundaries—not through formalities, but through shared dances, conversations, and mutual appreciation.

"Events sets like this one is very good to introduce to Chinese aspects of Brazilian culture," said Joao Batista Magalhaes, counselor of the Brazilian embassy in China.

"I believe next year [there] might be a bigger interest about Brazilian culture," said Andre Queme, director of Brazilian Citizens Council of Beijing.

Edvan Fleury, a Brazilian photographer who has documented Beijing's Brazilian community for years, described the event as a bridge between cultures.

"I'm so glad that Chinese people are really open to Latino culture," Fleury said.
