Northern Chinese regional railway authorities have launched special services to support regional events and education programs, with football fan-dedicated trains and study tours driving local demand.
As the grassroots soccer league in eastern Shandong Province gets underway, China Railway Jinan Group operated the first football fan-dedicated train of the year on May 22.
The tailored train, named "a date between mountain and sea," carried nearly 600 supporters from the mountainous city of Tai'an to the coastal city of Weihai, reflecting the geographic link between the two cities.
According to Yu Lei, stationmaster at Taishan Station of the Jinan Railway Operation Section under China Railway Jinan Group, the station worked with local fan associations to align travel schedules and capacity, ensuring a smooth and comfortable journey for the fans.
"In response to the large number of football fans traveling together from Tai'an, we have provided group charter services with priority ticketing, dedicated channels, and special waiting areas. These measures are designed to fully ensure safe and smooth journeys for all passengers," said Yu.
Carriages were decorated to create a leisure and dining space, with refreshment stations stocked with tea and charging cables to support fans on the move.
In northern Inner Mongolia, the first study tour train of the year left Hohhot for Beijing on May 22, carrying 641 teachers and students.
Railway authorities tailored service plans for students and teachers, opening green security channels and exclusive ticket gates, mapping optimal boarding routes, and setting up temporary medical points.
"From the station square to the waiting hall, ticket check, and boarding, railway staff provided guidance throughout the journey, making it both reassuring and convenient for us to travel with students," said Zhao Chenyuan, a teacher.
On board, staff organized lessons on railway safety, teaching safety rules and hosting quizzes, while students received cultural gifts, such as stickers and fridge magnets.
"The scenery outside is beautiful, and I’m excited about this study trip. Everyone is enjoying themselves on the train," said Wang Xu, a student participant.
