China's industrial robot exports have surged this year, with April's monthly export volume exceeding 25,000 units, according to data from the General Administration of Customs.
Official data indicate that exports of domestically produced mobile robots are growing rapidly. In terms of export destinations, the mature e-commerce, retail and third-party logistics industries in Europe, America and the Asia-Pacific region have an urgent need for warehouse automation, and customers are willing to pay for the technology.
Meanwhile, emerging markets, represented by Southeast Asia and the Middle East, are also creating huge market opportunities due to their demand for automated infrastructure.
"In the first four months of this year, Shenzhen's robotics industry accelerated its expansion into overseas markets, with products sold to more than 100 countries and regions worldwide. Exports reached 430 million yuan (about 63.38 million U.S. dollars), a year-on-year increase of 21.1 percent," said Wu Weijie, an official from Tongle Customs under Shenzhen Customs.
In addition to the rapid growth of the industrial mobile robotics market, humanoid robots are gradually becoming part of everyday life. This is driving strong demand for skilled professionals, particularly those with interdisciplinary expertise.
"In our team, we have people who studied computer science and mathematics, and even some who previously studied biology and were able to apply their knowledge to robotics," said Chen Liliang, an expert in embodied intelligence algorithms for robots at AgiBot, a Shanghai-based embodied AI company.
The growing demand for multidisciplinary talent in embodied intelligence is also driving universities to adapt their educational systems. Recently, the Ministry of Education released a catalog of undergraduate majors for colleges and universities, supporting nine universities in launching new programs in embodied intelligence to promote the deep integration of next-generation artificial intelligence with the real economy and to empower high-quality economic and social development.
