Chinese mainland travelers made a total of 6.522 billion trips in 2025, a sharp increase of 907 million, or 16.2 percent, over the previous year, the Ministry of Culture and Tourism said on Monday.

Urban residents made 4.996 billion trips, an increase of 14.3 percent over the previous year, while rural residents made 1.526 billion trips, a year-on-year increase of 22.6 percent, according to the results of a sample survey on Chinese mainlanders' travel released by the ministry.

In 2025, Chinese mainland residents spent 6.3 trillion yuan (about 903.41billion U.S. dollars) on travel, an increase of 550 billion yuan compared with the previous year, representing a year-on-year growth of 9.5 percent, according to the ministry.

Urban residents spent 5.3 trillion yuan on travel, marking a year-on-year increase of 7.5 percent, while rural residents' spending on travel climbed 21.4 percent to one trillion yuan, the ministry said.
