The 12th World Games, just concluded on Sunday at a joyous farewell ceremony in the southwestern Chinese city of Chengdu, has been well acclaimed by participants from all over the world.
The 60-minute closing ceremony featured highlights from the Games, an athlete parade, the flag handover, and cultural performances. It was held at the International Friendship Pavilion of the Chengdu International Horticultural Exposition Park.
Attendees gathered amidst cheers and applauses, expressing their admiration for the event and overall experience.
"It's absolutely top shelf in every way and we're just honored to be here as a team and as a nation," said Matt Gary, the powerlifting team leader from Britain.
"I think what impressed me the most tonight was the fireworks and mostly the organization at all," said Antonio Papazov, a bronze medalist in Aerobic Gymnastics Trio from Bulgaria.
"All of it, like I'm impressed of all of it. It's amazing. I don't know what to say because all of it was really, really amazing," said Arantxa Flores, a Mexican athlete of Women's MotoSurf.
"The whole event was absolutely amazing. It was probably the biggest event we've been with our sport," said Matej Surkos, a judge from the Czech Republic.
This year's event ran from Aug 7 to 17. A total of 6,679 athletes, sports team officials and technicians from 116 countries and regions participated in the Chengdu World Games, setting a new record in terms of participation.
"We gathered together like a family to watch the show. It was very warm and pleasant. Like the firework display at the closing ceremony, it not only signaled the successful end of the closing ceremony, but also resembled every tiny grain of the firework powders, like us volunteers as the little stars twinkling in the World Games," said Xu Yue, a volunteer.
In a symbolic gesture, the World Games flag was passed to Karlsruhe, Germany, the host city of the 13th World Games.
