The opening of the Chongqing-Xiamen high-speed railway has given a boost to local tourism of Pengshui Miao-Tujia Autonomous County in southwest China's Chongqing Municipality.
Officially entering operation on June 27, the key high-speed railway link not only marks a significant step toward establishing a vital transportation artery connecting China's inland region with its southeastern coast, but also boosts tourism along the route.
Take Pengshui Miao-Tujia Autonomous County as an example. Thanks to the high-speed railway, travel time from Pengshui to downtown Chongqing has been reduced from three and a half hours to just 40 minutes
The train tickets even grant access to key attractions such as Chiyou Jiuli City and Mowei Mountain, with free or half-price admission policies.
With enhanced convenience and lower prices, coupled with the unique culture of ethnic minorities, Pengshui has become more appealing than ever
"This is my first visit to Pengshui. The light show behind us and the ethnic cultural performances I just witnessed were unique and captivating," said Tan Minghua, a tourist.
As the nation's first immersive Miao cultural night tourism hub, Pengshui has introduced seven themed weeks and nine immersive interactive programs, including intangible cultural heritage performances, Miao wedding custom experiences, and bonfire dance activities.
"Today, I visited Jiuli City dressed in Miao traditional attire. The performances were impressive, and everyone involved was quite good-looking, men and women. During my visit, I participated watermelon eating competition and beer drinking activity. The local people here are very hospitable," said Liu Jiaxin, another tourist.
Additionally, there are integrated benefits including discounts on cultural and tourism market purchases and hotel accommodation discounts.
"Our stall primarily specializes in traditional intangible cultural heritage lacquer fans. During the summer, a fan is essential for staying cool. Our daily earnings are quite substantial," said Ran Jiajie, a vendor.
By leveraging high-speed rail connectivity and night tourism experiences, Pengshui has not only extended tourists' stays, but also effectively stimulated peripheral sectors such as catering, accommodation and cultural innovation, injecting new momentum into the integration of culture and tourism.
