SACRAMENTO — Governor Gavin Newsom on Jan18 announced the California Department of Technology (CDT) and the U.S. General Services Administration (GSA) have expanded their existing Login.gov partnership, which will soon offer easy access to aid for those impacted by the recent Los Angeles firestorms.
Within weeks, Californians impacted by the firestorms will be able to use a single Login.gov account not only to access their state benefits but also Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) services. The integrated service will provide disaster survivors with seamless, secure, and privacy-preserving digital access to critical services when it matters most. It will also help in future disasters.
The announcement builds on the CA.gov/LAfires website the Governor announced last week to help connect Californians with resources. Already, more than 200,000 people have accessed that website for support.
“California is working in overdrive to help those impacted by the Los Angeles firestorms. This partnership with the Biden-Harris Administration will get critical resources from both the state and federal government to survivors faster and more efficiently than ever,” said Governor Gavin Newsom.
California and GSA signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to rapidly deploy additional Login.gov authentication and identity verification services. The updated MOU between the California Department of Technology and the GSA will help the public easily access benefits and services across federal, state, and local government, while protecting against fraudulent actors and preventing identity theft.
