QINGDAO -- An array of creative nighttime activities such as shopping, entertainment, exhibitions and performances have heated up the cultural and tourism market in Qingdao during the traditional Dragon Boat Festival holiday.
Also known as Duanwu, the festival is a traditional Chinese holiday observed on the fifth day of the fifth month of the Chinese calendar, which falls on June 10 this year.
Inspired by Shanhaijing, or The Classic of Mountains and Seas, a major source of Chinese mythology that dates back more than 2,000 years, Qingdao City of east China's Shandong Province created a themed scenic area which features dazzling Chinese-chic decorative lights and buildings.
The market drew flocks of young people to come with its creative cultural products, toys, model figures and intangible cultural heritage items.
"All the buildings in the scenic area are prefabricated. The themes of the performances and cultural activities change with the festivals. All the sets and stages can be adjusted and altered within 72 hours," said Yang Bo, general manager of the scenic area.
